Is link building still important in 2019? Hey, my name’s Zukais and I’m an SEO consultant. I rank pages on Google for a living. and I believe I am fully qualified to answer this question.
So, is link building actually important today?
Long story short, link building is extremely important. Some people are starting to say links don’t work anymore but they’re dead wrong. Link building is extremely important today. If you’re not building links in your SEO campaign, guess what? You’re going to have an extremely tough time ranking.
There are some people out there that just publish content and try rank it like that. No promotion whatsoever. This is a publish and pray method and guess what? It never works. How do I know?
Because I’ve been there. You see, when I first got into search engine optimisation, I published really good posts and published them frequently just like the gurus told me. But did I rank? Nope. I didn’t get any traffic. Maybe I got two visitors every time I published a post but that’s about it.
My rankings did not increase. If you think simply publishing content will increase your rankings, you’re in for a rude awakening.
Publishing content is the easy part. that’s about 5% off the battle. The next 95% is the promotion part. The link building part. You need to build high quality backlinks to your website.
Without backlinks, you’re not going to rank, it’s a simple as that. Sure, you can rank for very low competitive terms if your domain authority is high enough but that’s pretty much it. If you want to go for more competitive keywords, you’re going to need to build backlinks.
Even Google says, backlinks are an important part of ranking. What do you think I’m doing now? I’m doing a guest post so I can leave a link to my site. And this is a great way to build backlinks.
Message other people in your space and tell them you’ll publish a post for them in exchange for a link to your website. It’s a win-win situation. Sometimes you have to pay them sometimes you won’t.
Is link building as important as it used to be? Absolutely not. There are so many other ranking factors out there. Such as page speed, bounce rate, and general user experience metrics.
But even with that said, backlinks are still important. Again, if you’re not building backlinks, then you’re missing out on a lot of rankings. When you publish a post I’m sure you’ve got some really good on-page SEO, you may rank. but most likely you won’t get past the second page.
And there’s a famous joke in the SEO industry. It goes like this:
If you want to hide a dead body, bury it on page 2 of Google.
In case you didn’t get it, this simply implies that no one goes to the second page of Google. Sure you can have good on-page SEO which gets you all the way to the second page but that’s as far as you’re going to get for the vast majority of search terms.
After you’ve ticked all the other boxes like optimising for user experience, creating great engaging content, and doing the on-page SEO. Next, you will need to build backlinks. It’s non optional.
If your competitors are building backlinks, then you’re going to need to build backlinks. On page SEO just won’t cut it. Backlinks will make sure to thrust you to the top rankings. Word count and user experience just won’t be enough to accomplish position 1 rankings.
So how do you get high quality backlinks? Like I mentioned, you can outreach to other people in your space and ask them for a backlink in exchange for an article. You can do this with email outreach or join Facebook groups.
I would recommend joining Facebook groups, you won’t get anywhere with email. Trust me, I’ve tried… a lot.
You can also outsource your link building. There are so many people out there but who do you trust?
Well you need someone with a bunch of testimonials, someone who’s been around for a while. Someone who is proven to get the job done.
I would recommend, ClickDo.
They are an established SEO company in London. One of the most competitive marketing cities on the planet and they rank for many competitive terms in London and all around the world.
I would recommend checking out their link building service here.
